An early production AI use case for Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser faced more than 8,800 SQL security vulnerabilities flagged by static code analysis, a remediation and compliance effort nobody wanted to touch. John Kotch, Ion Data's founder, led a solution pairing a triage web app with a locally hosted LLM and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to draft the required policy and procedure documents for review and ratification.

It became one of the first AI applications Kaiser approved, and it set the precedent for the follow-on AI projects that came after it.

John Kotch, Founder & Principal Architect

John is a hands-on AI and data solutions architect who is as comfortable presenting strategy to a C-suite as building the working prototype. Before founding Ion Data Consulting, he led enterprise data and GenAI engagements as an Associate Director at Cognizant, served as a principal presales architect for healthcare at Informatica and led data and systems for a major California green-power provider.

He has co-founded technology companies, including an enterprise workflow platform used by two Fortune 100 companies, and has modernized global platforms for studios including Sony Pictures and NBCUniversal. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from UNC Charlotte.
